  Description: 

This committee is focused on youth with disabilities who are 18 years or older, who are either in high school and are dually enrolled in college courses, or who have exited high school with a diploma or a certificate and are interested in postsecondary education.  Specific emphasis is on sharing information about creating inclusive postsecondary educational options for youth with intellectual disabilities that relate to their individual career goal and other adult life desires.

Accomplishments over the past two years:
  • The finalization of the TASH postsecondary eduation resolution 
  • The listserv poses questions/issues for discussion about postsecondary education options for students with disabilities. 
  • Continued updating of the ThinkCollege website which includes:
    • A database of postsecondary educational programs for youth with intellectual disabilities;
    • Resources for students, families and professionals; and
    • Additional resources outlining the differences between high school and college.
  • Publications and conferences that are getting stories out:
    • Going to College, Expanding Opportunities for People with Disabilities (Getzel & Wehman (2005), Brooks Publishing)
    • "Through the Same Door: Inclusion Includes College" - A DVD chroniclling the experiences of college freshman Micha Fialka-Feldman.  Available at Dance of Partnership 
    • "Postsecondary Options for Students with Intellectual Disabilities." (Hart et. al., Research to Practice Brief, Institute for Community Inclusion (2006))
    • National presentations at the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and Division Career Development and Transition (DCDT) conferences
    • Janice Fialka's "Think College! Postsecondary Education for Students with Disabilities" conference - University of Michigan, November 5, 2007
