TASH Resolutions

The expression of TASH values, through our Resolutions and Position Statements, binds our ideals to realistic methods for achieving the short and long range goals necessary to support lives of quality and integrity for people with severe disabilities. Whether or not we share the same perception of TASH, continuing to reflect on our values can provide a firm basis for the work that lies ahead

Topic Resources

Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA): In March 2010, Congress and the Department of Education held a series of hearings and meetings focused on the reauthorization of ESEA. TASH was present at these events to represent the interests of the disability community. And when the U.S. House of Representatives requested comments to assist with this legislation, TASH submitted comments based on its mission and vision of equity, opportunity and inclusion for all people. These comments can be downloaded here.

The Department of Education also released its “A Blueprint for Reform” report. The document outlines the Department’s plan and policy recommendations for Congress from the Administration for the reauthorization of ESEA. This document can be viewed online at http:/www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/blueprint/.

Disability Policy Seminar on Restraint & Seclusion (April 2010) : This information was presented by Barb Trader, TASH's Executive Director and Chair of  APRAIS (Alliance for the Prevention of Restraint, Aversive Interventions, and Seclusion) to the participants of the Disability Policy Seminar on April 13th in Washington, DC.  Information shared provides a brief history of the movement to end the use of restraint and seclusion in public schools, and to seek support for passage of Senate Bill 2860, Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act. The presentation can be viewed here.

Kids Included Together (KIT)
KIT is a 501 (c) (3) organization, supports recreational, child development and youth development programs that include children with and without disabilities. KIT’s goals are to enrich the lives of all who participate and to increase understanding and acceptance of disabilities as a natural part of life. KIT creates 4 year affiliations with existing community-based youth organizations to increase their capacity to serve children with disabilities. KIT does this by combining best-practice models, current research in the field of inclusion and effective interventions developed by KIT staff, into a sought-after curriculum of hands-on training, staff support, child-specific technical assistance, and site-specific consultations to develop the skills and confidence necessary to include all children who enroll in their programs.
