Carlo Harris  "My name is Carlo Harris and I am thirty years old and I live in Gwynn Oak Maryland. I am a self-advocate and have advocated for people with disabilities for much of my adult life. I have enjoyed being an active part of my community and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been on different committees and participated in different functions, which enabled me to learn about all kinds of people and about the challenges and obstacles life presents and how to overcome them and make the best of life’s circumstances. In a nutshell I am a person like everyone else trying to figure out the meaning of life, to be great in all my endeavors and to be an example for my fellow man."

"I have been working for the Department of Agriculture since 1991 as an Office Automation Clerk. I also do paid and volunteer work for several organizations that support the rights of persons with disabilities. I have a greeting card business on the side which I started in December 2003."

Lisa Morgan  "I currently work at Eastern Shore Center for Independent Living on the eastern shore. I am a parent educator, an advocate and a peer mentor. I was diagnosed with fibromyaligia 4 years ago. I also have an 11 year old daugter who has non-verbal learning disability. So I see ALL aspects of the ''system', as a parent, as a person with an agency and as a person with a disabilty.

"I agreed to be a parent trainer for the new DDA waiver to eduate others parents like myself who has a child with a disablity and is entitled to medicaid dollars. As a parent I believe the greatest tool you can have in your tool box is knowledge. I feel, above all, the best I can give my child is a clear, direct path to what is available to her and the power to direct her own path."

Christine Jones Young  "Native of the Eastern Shore Of Maryland...I graduated in 1972...Former Ms. Wheelchair of Maryland 1973...I worked at Md. Rehabilitation Center now known as WTC as a Ortho-radar Technician for the Hearing Impaired and a Medical Secretary, until I moved back to the Eastern Shore. I worked at our local Hospital until I retired from there, to be a stay at home mom. When my son got older I decided to go back to work and got a job at our Local Wal-Mart as a Door Greeter for 12 years-absolutely wonderful job for inter-action with the Community-lots of opportunities to advocate. Currently I work for The Eastern Shore Center for Independent Living as an Independent Living Specialists, some of my duties include advocacy, peer mentoring and skills training. My work at the Center is very fulfilling and I have learned THAT KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. I look forward to working on this project and feel since I spent almost 5 years Institutionalized, that I know something about Advocating for oneself."
