History of “My Life Going Far “

The Developmental Disabilities Administration receiving an Independent plus Waiver from the Federal Government, they saw this as a new way of life for people with developmental disabilities. With the theme of “new “the Administration named the waiver, The New Directions Waiver. Determine to give individuals with disabilities and families the tools and information to take maximum advantage of the new way in receiving services they formed a partnership with The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council to write a training grant. TASH an international organization that promotes full participation from all citizens with disabilities in society applied and was awarded the three year system change grant for Maryland. Having a national presents especially in the movement of self determination TASH was seen as a good match.

Purpose of project

The state of Maryland brings self directed services to persons with disabilities wanting to take control of their lives. The My Life Going Far Project purposes are; Build a statewide network of peer mentors, who will

.. Spread the word about The New Directions Waiver in their local regions.
.. Provide regional training to tell you how the waiver can impact you.
.. Give you guidance through the entire process.
Secondly project staff, pulling from national resources, assists the Developmental Disabilities Administration develop policies for The New Directions Waiver. The policy work ensures you; the person who needs supports the maximum control and choices over your life.

Weather you are a person with a disability, or a parent of a child with a disability, the leadership has both perspectives The two Co-Directors, Edward Willard a person with a disability and Jackie Golden a parent of a son with a disability, we bring our life experiences that will help you plan a life that makes sense for you and or your love one
