Now Recruiting for Regional Peer Trainers

Looking for individual(s) with disabilities who is a self-advocate as well as parent advocate(s) to train and mentor participants on "The New Directions" waiver. Must have and demonstrate values of self-determination. Must commit to co-facilitating  trainings in your region. Also, responsible for follow-ups to insure individual's plans are carried out.

Below are some of the expectations of peer trainers for the "My Life Going FAR", a project of TASH, under a grant from the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council.

As a peer trainer your primary role will be to assist individuals in your  region of Maryland to self-direct services. 

Attend regional team meetings as necessary TASH staff and other stakeholders

Make a commitment to approximately 10 - 15  hours per month of work towards project activities. Schedules and activities will be coordinated with each peer trainer and the project co-directors.

Peer-trainers will work under the direction of the project co-directors to develop a plan for providing on-going technical assistance in their region to individuals and to families on subjects related to self directed services and self determination.

Peer trainers will work as a team to coordinate with representatives from the DDA regional office to help identify and recruit individuals enrolling in the "New Directions" waiver.

Coordinate with Regional DDA offices for resources and materials to be prepared for upcoming events and trainings.

Serve as a resource to other individuals and families by providing ongoing support to participants on a as needed basis

Keep track of project activities and expenses related to the project and submit forms in accordance with the agreed upon schedule. Expenses must be pre-approved by project co-directors.

Have access to (or a plan to access) a phone and internet including email, for communication with project co-directors and/or individuals and families to whom you are providing assistance.

A monthly stipend will be paid for project activities.
