MCARE
MCARE is the National Clearinghouse on Managed Care and Long-Term Supports and Services
for People with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families. The MCARE website seeks to
provide the most current information available on managed care, long-term services and
supports, self-determination, and other related areas. MCARE will provide the latest news
articles, upcoming conferences and events, government documents, research and policy
papers, and individual perspectives.
National Coalition
on Self-Determination The only national partnership of people with
disabilities, parents and family members who work to promote federal policies that support
the four principles of Self-Determination: freedom, authority, support, and
responsibility. The coalition also supports the Community Imperative a declaration
asserting the fundamental human right of all people, regardless of the severity of their
disabilities, to community living.
The Center for
Self-Determination is a highly interactive working collaborative of individuals and
organizations committed to the principles of self-determination. The purpose of the
collaborative is to help all persons with disabilities create the lives they want,
connected to and with their communities, and to change the systems that support them.
The OHSU
Center on Self-Determination identifies, develops and shares approaches that promote

Together
Advocating Change Together (ACT) is a nonprofit disability rights organization run by and
for people with developmental and other disabilities. We are committed to freedom,
equality, and justice for all people with disabilities.
Parallels
In Time contains over 150 pages of information about the history of society's
treatment of persons with developmental disabilities. It also features numerous video and
audio clips, and each page is linked to an audio reading of that page. Parallels in Time
was developed by the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities. In order
to access the video and audio portions of Parallels In Time you will need QuickTime 3.0 or higher
installed on your computer, and the QuickTime plug-in installed on your browser. QuickTime
allows you to playback numerous digital video and audio formats, and is one of the most
popular and widely used browser plug-ins.

Self-Advocate
Leadership Network
The Self-Advocate Leadership Network is a team of self-advocates and professionals who
will travel anywhere to train others on self-determination, community integration,
participant-driven supports, and systems change. The purpose of the Leadership Network is
to prepare self-advocates to play a leadership role in guiding developmental disabilities
systems change in ways that promote self-determination, community integration and
participant-driven supports.

Disabilities Council
The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council advocates for public policy and supportive

developmental disabilities in community life.

Maryland Family Net Works is the most comprehensive online resource for disability-related
information and supports specific to the needs of Maryland families that include a member
with a disability. This is an ever-changing, interactive site designed to empower families

Maryland Disability Law Center
The Maryland Disability Law Center (MDLC) is a private, non-profit organization staffed by
attorneys and paralegals. MDLC is the Protection and Advocacy organization for Maryland.
The Coordinating Center
The Coordinating Center provides multiple services for individuals with complex medical
needs and disabilities, their families and others who support them, as well as providers
of services. We are a community-based organization, and a private not-for-profit
corporation certified as a minority business enterprise. While we are headquartered in
Anne Arundel County , Maryland, our services are delivered throughout the state,
regionally, and nationally.

Developmental Disabilities Administration
The mission of the Developmental Disabilities Administration is to provide leadership to
assure the full participation of individuals with developmental disabilities and their
families in all aspects of community life. In addition, DDA's goal is to promote their
empowerment to access quality supports and services necessary to foster personal growth,
independence and productivity. DDA is the major funding source for services to support
individuals with developmental disabilities in Maryland.
The Arc of Maryland
The Arc of Maryland (formerly the Association for Retarded Citizens) has been working to
improve the lives of children and adults with mental retardation since 1950. From modest
beginnings as a small group of concerned parents, to the largest and strongest
organization assisting persons with mental retardation in Maryland, The Arc has led the
way in promoting new program methodology and utilizing state of the art technology to
benefit individuals with mental retardation and their families.

The Community Imperative

Institute (HSRI)
The Human Services Research Institute (HSRI) was established in 1976 with the express

including a focus on the evaluation of managed care for vulnerable populations.
